PRIMER TO CIRCLE WORK • DURATION: 16HRS (4 Sessions) • THEORY + COVEN RITUAL PRACTICE • SPELLCRAFT AND PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT • FOR BEGINNERS TO INTERMEDIATE

Wednesday 24 May, Wed 31 May, Wed 7 June, and Wed 14 June 2017  

The workshop course is designed to help guide those interested in experiencing an authentic ritual practice while gaining an appreciation of what a modern witches’ coven is like. Witches in a Circle workshop is offered as the best way to make a serious start in witchcraft and magickal practice. Your teacher Lisa Babalon has more than 20 years experience and uses a plain-speak instruction style.

Your 4 workshop sessions, run a total 14hrs and each class provides both a detailed theory session followed by exercises in the ritual practices. You will experience a number of core witchcraft practices including the group creation of a ritual sacred space and exercises in psychic development and spell-craft. 

The complete workshop fee is $160. You will also receive a course ebook “The Witches’ Workshop Toolbox”, valued at $25. The course is also available to repeat students for only $100, and coven members are admitted free.

Session 1: Wednesday, 24 May 6:00pm—10:00pm

THEORY SESSION: What witches do. The group will explore what witches in history have practiced. Taking time to explore the traditions of Alexandrian and Gardnerian witches, along with looking at ceremonial practitioners, such as the Golden Dawn, Rosecrucians, Enochian, Thelemic practices- OTO and Vodou. Also taking the time to reflect on our own practices and how they relate to these practices. Question time.

RITUAL PRACTICUM: Introduction to circle casting and elemental work- casting the Witches circle. Building the body of the coven. Feedback time.


Session 2: Wednesday, 31 May 6:00pm—10:00pm

THEORY SESSION: Witches Familiars. The group will come together with their research on familiars from the previous week and share their findings. Together we will explore what is a familiar spirit? Animal or other? How do we recognise our familiars? How do we connect with them and work them on a daily basis. We will discuss, drum, dance and mantra. 

Taking the time to look at different techniques to connect to our psychic functions, studying the ideas of visual journeys, utilising the mind's eye, scrying by the elements and channeling and possession. Question time.

RITUAL PRACTICUM: After the training coven have cast the witches circle, the group will incorporate music, percussion, mantra and dance, entering into a trance state with the intent of connecting to a familiar spirit. Feedback time.


Session 3: Wednesday, 7 June 6:00pm—10:00pm

THEORY SESSION: Archetypes, the Gods and Goddesses. The group will present their homework task from the following week- Who are the archetypes and Gods they have/ would like to/ worked with and why? The facilitator then will begin to explore with the group the core archetypes of Babalons Rising Coven and Dark Circle. The study of correspondences and putting a ritual of devotion together.  

The group will also be taught a revised version of the Star Ruby Rite. Exploring the deities and the purpose of the rite. This is then followed by an introduction to the coven’s mythology and how this relates to the myth of Persephone entering the underworld and our uses of an admittance rite. Question time.

RITUAL PRACTICUM: Setting up your altar, correspondences and offerings. Practicing the admittance rite, the circle casting and the Star Ruby invocation invocation, dance and trance. Feedback time.


Session 4: Wednesday, 14 June 6:00pm—10:00pm

THEORY SESSION: Have you seen a god today? The group will revise all they have learned and study different methods of spell casting. Discussion will be based around ideas of Purpose, Will and Enlightenment. Question time.

RITUAL PRACTICUM: The group will culminate all they have learned in the last month. The group will complete a ritual; including an admittance rite, the Star Ruby ritual, the Circle Casting, the Invocation, Dance, Trance and Spell casting. Feedback time.

Each workshop moves participants from theory into ritual practice right from the start. The sessions begin with a theoretical study followed by applied practical ritual exercises. During each session, we cover a variety of techniques used by witches for psychic development, with questions encouraged throughout each class.

What will I need?

A few things to think about.


You may want to make written notes, but most of the details of each workshop session are provided in your free copy of the “Witches Workshop Toolbox” ebook. We provide some drinks and snacks, but you should eat before you arrive. We use the Babalon’s Rising Covenstead, in Mount Kembla, South West Wollongong NSW 2526. Once you have arranged payment we will supply address details and direction.

The workshops are designed to be socially inclusive. We value and respect the cultural and gender diversity that students bring to our classes. For many who are venturing into ritual work for the first time it can be helpful to share experiences of the workshops.
