WOLLONGONG TRAINING COVEN • CANDIDATES NEED TO HAVE COMPLETED THE REQUIRED WORKSHOPS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR COVEN INVOLVEMENT
Babalon's Rising Coven was established in 2007, in The Blue Mountains west of Sydney, NSW Australia. We are a Thelemic based coven, but also draw on traditional Shamanic and contemporary Chaos magical practices. These practices work together to create an energetic egregore (group mind) that immerses coven members deeply into the psyche (soul) of the coven.
The coven founder, Lisa Babalon, has continued a well established tradition of creating coven-based working groups as part of the Dark Circle Collective (formed in 1984). Lisa began her coven work in Sydney in 2003 as member of Nuit’s Veil Coven before establishing Babalon’s Rising coven.
Babalon’s Rising covenstead (meeting place) is located in Wollongong, in the Illawarra region, south of Sydney, NSW Australia..
Babalon's Rising, is a proud daughter coven to Nuit's Veil. Following in the tradition of the Dark Circle Collective, we have abandoned the hierarchical model for the coven and work as a circle of peers. This means that there is no literal use of titles like High Priest or High Priestess. This has also meant that a strong level of shared leadership has developed within the coven.
Babalon’s Rising Coven uses several ritual practicum that are unique to the initiatory experience of it’s members. The Luna Child ritual as a full moon esbat is core to our magickal work. At the heart of the ritual is the goal of producing a spirit-child, a Moon Child. The Moon Child is at once both the individual offspring of each coven member, and the amplified spirit of the Coven's psychic experience in a mysterium coniunctionis, a mysterious union. The magickal destiny and birth of Moon Child is designed to fulfil the desire of each coven member as a personal spell-casting.
We have modelled our ideas and expectations for circle development through documents such as the Coven Involvement document. See link below..
Excerpt by John (Jack) Whiteside Parsons, 1914–1952
from “Freedom is a Two-edged Sword”:
“...But now the darkness is riven through
and the robes of sin are gone,
And naked she stands as a terrible blade
and a flame and a splendid song
Naked in radiant mortal flesh
at the Birth of BABALON...
Click the book to read an excerpt from “Practising the Witch’s Craft”, edited by Prof. Doug Ezzy. Coven founder, Tim Ozpagan recounts his early experiences in coven work, sharing insights to his initiation into the psychic reality of the witch’s craft through coven ritual practices.
If you are interested in coven involvement you will need to have undertaken the relevant workshops such as “Casting the Witch’s Circle” workshop. This is our primer training workshop and the place to begin your journey. Coven founder Tim Ozpagan periodically holds this workshop and our coven also runs occasional witch camp retreats. Register your interest and tell us a bit about yourself.
“What I experienced...was an extension of what I experienced during my re-dedication to the Craft...the ritual was absolutely beautiful, dark and dramatic. I really look forward to future rituals and want to extend my thanks to all who participated... The ritual inspired me to work with my Shadow self and has initiated a very interesting journey.”
“I think it [witchcraft] speaks of an appreciation of the environment which we don't have anymore.”
“This weekend has been a mind-blowing, life-changing event. The energy in the rituals were beyond the scale of anything else I have experienced before; and the loving, caring community made me feel so at home.”
